With its sandy beaches and breathtaking sunsets, Mirissa is the place to be these days, there is so much to do, yet so little time.
Mirissa is a quaint city that is just 240 kilometers away in the South from the stressful life in the main city of Colombo and truth be told a lot of people living in Colombo tend to escape to Mirissa for the weekend for some much needed relaxation and a getaway all in one. The reason for this is due to the fact that there is little distance between Colombo and Mirissa when travelling by the Southern Expressway, because it takes only an hour or two maximum to get there.
The first thing to do when arriving at Mirissa would definitely be to go to the beaches. The best times would be during the evening, maybe 4 o clock to sunset, as the sun is slowly setting and the weather is cool and nice at that time. Sunrise is also a great time, which is around 5 in the morning, and not a lot of people are awake at that time. The sunrise and sunset make the ideal capture because it is so vivid and eye-capturing to watch.
Mirissa is sort of undiscovered by most of the tourists, as the government has restricted development, and banned vendors from selling their goods, so it is a safe haven for now. Tourists are usually subject to the locals trying to sell things to make a living for themselves, especially in Hikkaduwa and Unuwatuna, where most tourists are.
