Telulla Archaeological Site

Tellula Archaeological Site is a collective site consisting of 11 stupas, an image house and remains of two buildings which were destroyed by treasure hunters.

Overview

The site is located in the Moneragala District of the Uva Province. The site currently consists of eleven Stupas, an image house and the remains of two buildings.
Out of the eleven stupas in this area only two has been restored by the Department of Archaeology which makes it possible to site only these two, while the ruins of the other stupas are scattered around the jungle. The image house and the stupas are believed to have been destroyed by treasure hunters.
The surrounding of this area is strewn with massive amounts of brick bats and fragments of tiles. All of these ruins are believed to be parts of a temple complex that was built in the Anuradhapura Era.
This site can be reached through the Weligatta-Bundala road passing the Bundala National park.
