The Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple was built by the Chinmaya mission of Sri Lanka with Lord Hanuman is the superior deity. The temple sits on a beautiful location in the Ramboda village overlooking the valley of Kotmale and is tied to legend of Ramayana. This mythical legendary tale relates that this location of Ramboda Hilla was where Lord Hanuman had searched for Sitadevi who was hidden by King Ravana. A stretch of empty land known as the ‘Chariot Path’ was where King Ravana had taken Sitadevi to Ashoka Vatika to demonstrate and show his kingdom to her. There is a pond, created from Sitadevi’s tears, called the ‘Sita Tear Pond.’ This village and area of Ramboda was said to have been where Rama’s forces had gathered against King Ravana.
Therefore, this temple is entirely devoted and dedicated to this legend and houses a giant granite statue of Lord Hanuman which stands tall as 40 feet. Special pooja rituals are carried out on every full moon day which are witnessed by numerous devotees. ‘Senthooram’, which personifies ‘victory’, is applied to Sri Baktha Hanuman. Senthooram is offered only at Hanuman temples. Silk, flowers and other decorative items are used to make garlands for special occasions.
