One of the main highlights in the forest is the variety of birds that can be seen, there are over 270 varieties that have been identified so far, and they are all extraordinary and special. The Jungle Fowl (the national bird) the Spur Fowl, the Sri Lanka Blue Magpie and the Ceylon White-headed are just a couple out of other types that can be seen. Something that can be regularly seen at the Sinharaja forest is the flocks of birds including mixed species that go through the forest in harmony. There are a lot of bird enthusiasts who come to the forest especially for the bird watching and so that they can further study and identify any other species they may happen to come across. Red- faced Malkoha, Indian Scimitar, Black Eagle are also spotted in the forest. Despite the fact that a large number species have already been identified, there could potentially still be more to find.
Another major aspect of bird watching is the high quality photography people are lucky enough to obtain, some even getting close up pictures which are a very rare opportunity. Photographers don’t focus just on the birds but everything else, too – ranging from the wild profusion of flora in the forest.
