Anjaneyar Temple-Dehiwela

Steeped in legend, the Anjaneyar temple is the first of its kind in the country and is the only temple with Panchamuga (five faced). It was established on the 30th of June, in 1996. It is the only temple in the world to have a chariot for Anjaneyar.

Overview

The Sri Anjaneyar Temple is located approximately 9 kilometres away from the heart of Colombo; in Dehiwala. It is the first Anjaneyar Temple in Sri Lanka. Also, it happens to be the only Panchamuga (five faced) Anjaneyar Temple in Sri Lanka. The main deity of this temple is Sri Hanuman. In addition statues of Nandi, Navagraha, Rama, Sita, Jain idol of Lord Parshwanath, and Ganesha statues are found at this temple. The Anjaneyar Temple in Dehiwala is the only temple in the world to have a chariot for Anjaneyar. The temple opens at 5.30 in the morning and closes at 8.00 pm. However, during 1.00pm to 4.30pm the temple will be closed.
Visitors to this temple are advised to wear modest clothing which covers both shoulders and legs when visiting.
