Geoffrey Bawa was a world renowned Sri Lankan architect whose work was mainly in Sri Lanka but has worked in countries such as India, Indonesia, Mauritius, Japan, Pakistan, Fiji, Egypt and Singapore. His works include schools, clubs, houses, hotels, offices and government buildings. He had built his office, a graceful colonial bungalow, which sits in an upscale area of Colombo and has been transformed into a restaurant known as Paradise Road Gallery Café.
Overlooking a quaint courtyard and is the dining area which is open-air, all set with beautiful contemporary interiors and furniture. The takeover of his property was approved by Bawa, due to his respect towards Udayashanth Fernando’s (Chairman of the Paradise Road brand and designer) design sense and also the confidence that this building would be converted while maintaining its original state.
The restaurant was inaugurated in 1998 and has become a must-visit place in Colombo. This internationally acclaimed restaurant holds exhibitions by up and coming and renowned local artists on a rotating basis. Mouth watering dishes ranging from local to international cuisine and over 30 scrumptious dessert choices are available at this restaurant. Though the food is slightly expensive, the generous portions, the freshness and the deliciousness of the food make it worthwhile.
