Nuwara Eliya is set amongst misty hills and mountains in the country, along with tea plantations and factories in the near distance.
The town is located 167.5 km away from Colombo. It is approximately four hours away.
Nuwara Eliya is easily one of the best places in Sri Lanka to visit, as it serves for the perfect getaway from the daily stressful routine and reality. It is literally a breath of fresh, clean air and you can automatically feel the difference when you get there.
The town was founded by Sir Samuel Baker, a British explorer who found great potential with what he found, and he actually ended up settling in the island for 8 years and went on to write a book about his experiences titled ‘Eight years wanderings in Ceylon’, which turned out to be one of his most acclaimed books.
There are quite a lot of things to do in Nuwara Eliya, ranging from visiting tea plantations and factories, visiting strawberry fields, horse-back riding near the Gregory Park and so much more.
